Introduction to MAT

MAT (Mobile Assessment Tool) is an extension of SAM that allows the clinical documentation for a patient to be entered on a Tablet PC away from the office and transmitted to the office via WiFi.  MAT in the office allows the document to be edited, printed, reviewed, sent back to a device if there is an issue, and finally sent to SAM.  Great care was taken to provide the caregiver with the most straight-forward user interface possible to minimize the tasks of training and support.  Using MAT should greatly reduce the clinical paper chase, increase document accuracy, reduce the time spent on clinical documentation, and greatly increase an agency’s billing efficiency.

MAT Documents include Discharge Death at Home, Discharge from Agency, Follow-Up, Recertification, Resumption of Care, Start of Care, Transfer, Verbal Order, Visit Not Made, Nursing and Therapy Visit Notes, and a Case Coordination Note. These documents flow to SAM’s care plans, verbal orders, patient status, OASIS, and visits while SAM’s patient referral and schedule information is available to MAT.  The level of integration between the two systems is very high.   SAM and MAT, are supported by the same staff, share the same SQL database and, in the future, the terms SAM and MAT will be replaced with RiverSoft Office and RiverSoft Mobile.

There is no additional charge for using MAT in the office – anyone who has access to SAM has access to MAT in the office – MAT is considered to be just another part of SAM.  The charge for using MAT on a mobile device is $60 per month per active device with a minimum of 5 per organization.   Each month your database will be asked how many different devices synchronized MAT documents to the office.  This number will be multiplied by $60 and added to your monthly invoice along with report of usage.

Please call RiverSoft (321.242.1347) to arrange an installation and training.  The installation can be done in less than an hour.  The internet training that follows takes about 90 minutes and should provide you with all of the information you need to get your first wave of caregivers using MAT.  The charge for this installation and training is $200 and will appear on your next month’s invoice.

It appears that most MAT users are gravitating to tablet PCs with 12 inch screens. The reasons given is that the screen size allows for comfortable viewing and the size and weight are quite manageable. Going with smaller screen sizes, all the way down to the 5.6 inch screen of the Fujitsu U810, dramatically reduces viewing comfort, especially if you have less than perfect near-vision. Although the smaller devices are lighter and less expensive, over the approximately 30 month life of a device, the weight difference (two to three pounds) and the price difference (less than $20 per month) is not worth the decrease in a caregiver's comfort and productivity. For this reason, we currently recommend Tablet PCs with 12 inch screens.
